Major Projects
The Letton-Hall Group participates in several major industry consortium programs. Experience with organizing and managing Joint Industry Projects for the oil and gas industry has been refined into an area of specialty. Two examples of our leadership in industry iniatives are the RPSEA and Technician Training programs. In both cases, LHG led the way in developing the cooperative environment required for collaborative programs.
RPSEA
The objective of RPSEA Project 2007DW1301 is to improve the recovery from deepwater reservoirs beyond current capabilities. Better information on well performance will be required and achieved through continuous
measurement information on individual wells.
Many of the gaps that provide the essence of this project were initially identified through the DeepStar Project 8302, Improved Multiphase Metering for Subsea Tiebacks. The momentum generated by this work provided the main driving force to eradicate these technology gaps, and pointed the way forward toward the ultimate solutions – to this project in particular.
Achieving success in this project will have a major impact on the future development of deepwater petroleum resources for the United States. Without these solutions, reservoirs will be depleted in ways that leave millions of barrels of oil and MMBTU of gas in the ground, while the risk of revenue misallocation and lost royalties will remain high.
Technician Training
Retirement, attrition, loss of internal training and the lack of adequate external training have created the need for a common training program, developed, owned and managed by natural gas industry operating companies. This need is supported in a recent study by the INGAA Foundation, entitled Securing Our Future: Developing the Next
Workforce, which concluded that technical skill development is inadequate, while the need for training new-hires will increase in the coming few years. Furthermore, it is well-established among engineers and technicians working in the field that the technician shortage has arrived and will likely get worse, increasing the need for high-quality, standardized training.
The Letton-Hall Group, in partnership with the Southern Gas Association, has developed a concept for an industry-owned technician training program targeted at measurement technicians. Through cooperation with SGA member companies as well as non-member companies, the program is funded through a joint industry project. Fifteen operating companies representing all segments of the natural gas industry are participating in the program.
Deepstar
DeepStar is a joint industry technology development project focused
on advancing the technologies to meet its members deepwater business needs. DeepStar Phase VIII commenced in January 2006 with ten Oil Company Participants. DeepStar Participants represent a strong mix of large and mid-size operators, USA and non-USA based, drawing in a rich array of diverse expertise to address common deepwater business challenges. DeepStar currently has over 50 service and vendor company Contributor Members.
